HELEN, ALEXANDRA, AND LINDSAY - THEIR CONTRIBUTIONS TO THE SITE
Alexandra, Helen Ough Dealy and Lindsay Alexander live in the Bay of Islands in an idyllic setting. Their house called the Russell Tree House is a New Zealand "pole house" and is set on steep ground near the Flagstaff Hill reserve above the town of Russell in Northland. This page gives access to their stories, tales, traditions, songs and poetry with a few pictures thrown in.
During the summer months HAL let their house out to friends and visitors. In the early years of Alexandra's life they would vacate the house and live on a boat (Shearwater) in Matawhi Bay by the Bay of Islands Yacht Club. When they lived on Shearwater, Alex went ashore in a dinghy and then walked to school in Russell and more often than not she had to row. But occasionally she is able to sail and is skilled enough not to ram any other moored vesssels on the way. Later when she went to High School in Kerikeri and her daily commute became more complicated. She rowed ashore, then walked to the Russell Wharf and caught the ferry to Pahia. then she jumped on the bus to Kerikeri and the school. Every da she did the same journey in reverse. Sthis forced her to be an early riser and erly to bed....quite against her natural instincts.
Alexandra left home to go onto Vicoria University where she obtained to degrees and went on to get 3 jobs and live a very busy life.
The HAL life style remains unusual and interesting. Helen works for the Department of Conservation as a Senior Ranger and is also a researcher specializing in social behaviour. She has also been a schoolteacher, Marketing Manager and editor. Lindsay is a public speaker and writer and has published several books. These are about the history of the area, the central theme being whaling . You can find the details of his work .through the web site https//:google.com/site/kororarekapublication/
